An upper ridge will build across the British Isles during Thursday, generally suppressing much in the way of deep convection. However, as the upper high centre drifts southeastwards across northern France on Thursday night, falling heights and slight cooling aloft combined with warm advection in the lower-levels will lead to some weak elevated instability developing over the Irish Sea / northern England area. Gradual moistening of the profile, especially late in the night, may result in some showery bursts of rain developing from high bases in the LOW threat area during the early hours of Friday. The risk of lightning is considered fairly low, but non-zero.
