Scattered showers will be affecting parts of Scotland and perhaps Northern Ireland on Saturday morning, as an upper trough and associated cold pool / steep mid-level lapse rates spreads eastwards across the area. With time, the trough axis will clear to the North Sea, and consequently convection will become shallower in depth and increasingly isolated - with the main focus becoming increasingly confined to the Northern Isles by the afternoon. A few isolated lightning strikes will be possible with the most intense cells, some accompanied by hail and gusty winds.
