Disrupting upper trough covers western Europe on Sunday, the main cut-off upper low located over Biscay with heights gradually rising across the neck portion over the UK/Ireland. Rather extensive cloud is expected, but some diurnal heating could result in some relatively shallow convection and a few showers developing - particularly focussed along the remnants of an old frontal boundary draped from Scotland through northern and western Ireland, and also along a convergence zone in southern England. In either case, very little - if any - lightning is expected.
Overnight, another surge of rain is expected to push out of France across the English Channel towards southern England. On the southern flank, in a much more unstable environment, a few lightning strikes may be possible near the French coast and potentially near the Channel Islands too.
